Tuesday, 2:47 PM. Phone rings. Client on the line — small brand, three seasons in, their first serious foray into technical headwear. The Lessons (Hard Learned)
I've since implemented a few policies based on this (and similar) experiences:
- Verify sample materials before assuming availability. Even with Polartec licensed facilities, not every variant is always in stock. Calling ahead is now a 24-hour-before-rush rule.
- Trust your gut on vendor responsiveness — it's a leading indicator. That 18% cheaper vendor who couldn't answer questions about Thermal Pro specs? We now maintain a shortlist of 'fast responders' for emergency work.
- Build a 12-hour buffer into every 48-hour promise. My experience is based on about 200 mid-range orders. If you're working with luxury or ultra-budget segments, your experience might differ, but this one principle holds: something always goes wrong. Leave time for the fix.
